Dream, Believe, Achieve: 5 Actionable Goal Setting Tips

Are you looking for a way to ensure that you hit your goals this year? Do you feel that you need help with goal setting strategies that really work? If so, then you need to start by learning all that you can about the goal setting process with goal setting tips that you can apply right away.

Setting goals just for the sake of setting them won’t do any good. It requires action to turn them into a reality! It’s all about setting yourself up for success by providing actionable steps.

See below for an in-depth guide listing several goal-setting tips. These will help you envision yourself obtaining your goals and battling through adversity.

1. Establish a Vision

Many people have tried to get inside the mind of Michael Jordan. One of the best basketball players of all time, MJ accomplished goals at an alarming rate. The moment was never too big for him.

But what makes him the most special player of all was his mindset. The way he established big and small goes are the stuff of legends. He always stressed the importance of practicing like you want to play and envisioning himself making the free throw with the game on the line.

…Did you catch that last part? Envisioning himself making the free throw with the game on the line.

He saw himself coming up in the clutch long before it ever happened. That’s the kind of goal-setting vision we all need to instill in ourselves. If we can see ourselves accomplishing the goal, it can give us the confidence and inspiration to work towards the goal in the first place!

Most of us never take the time to envision ourselves losing 30 pounds or getting that job that we’ve always wanted. We just sit in the prison of our hopelessness.

No longer! Find some time today to sit in solitude and envision the goals you want to accomplish. What does that look like? What will it take to get there? What will it feel like when you finally get under 200 pounds again? These are the question you need to ask yourself!

2. Organize Those Goals Effectively

Think back to the big projects you’ve completed in your lifetime. What made those projects more realistic than the ones you didn’t accomplish? We’re willing to be that it had something to do with your organization.

The success rate of you accomplishing your goals starts at the very beginning, in the organization stage. This is what helps you create concrete parameters for your goals; it ensures that you’re on the right track.

First, start by using the SMART goals method. For those of you unfamiliar, “SMART” stands for:

  • Specific: Define your goals; lower them down to a niche meaning/
  • Measurable: Set small goals that can help you gauge your progress towards your end goal /
  • Achievable: Find the balance between a goal that’s challenging, but entirely possible/
  • Realistic: Is this goal realistic? Do you have the ability to accomplish it?
  • Time-Based: Create deadlines. This creates urgency and ensures you remain consistent.

One last note, be sure to write down these goals. Studies show that you’re 42-percent more likely to achieve your goals when you write them down.

3. Create Accountability

Every person, regardless of the goal, goes through the same ebbs and flows. At first, you’re riding a high; you’ve got all the inspiration you need (and then some) to work towards the goals you’ve set.

However, the path to any worthwhile goal involves many setbacks and hurdles. You’re too tired to work out, you’re feeling defeated because you aren’t seeing the results you’d hoped for, etc.

It’s in those moments that your inspiration (power from within) is at its lowest. That’s when you need motivation (power from external sources) to encourage you and pick you up off your feet!

Make sure that you give yourself accountability towards your long-term goals. You don’t have to go this alone! Accountability takes many forms, such as small group training, hiring trainers, finding mentorship, or teaming up with others working towards the same goal.

4. Gear Towards Change

If there’s one thing that humans don’t like, it’s change. Change pushes us in directions that we don’t want to go; it’s notorious for making us feel uncomfortable.

However, as the old saying goes, “If you want results you’ve never had, then you have to do something you’ve never done.” Wiser words have never been spoken.

Don’t avoid change, embrace it. When you’re setting your goals, look for ways to switch them up from the methods you’ve tried before. When you’re working towards your goals, do something each day that makes you feel uncomfortable. It will expand your horizons!

5. Take Action

You’ve done all the preparation you need. You’ve envisioned what it’s like to accomplish this goal, but your imagination isn’t going to get you to where you want to go.

Just like Arnold H. Glasow once said, “An idea not coupled with action will never get any bigger than the brain cell it occupied.” It’s time to act, people!

Start by taking little actions each day. In fact, give yourself 5 tiny actions to knock out each day towards your goals. When done over 30 days, that’s 150 small goals you’ve accomplished. Over 365 days, that’s 1,825 small goals you’ve finished! You’ll surpass your long-term goal with ease.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all of us.

While we know that it is vital that non-essential workers stay home and social distance to slow the spread of the virus…. doing so has unfortunately wreaked havoc on the economy, particularly small businesses and those employed by them. Restaurants and restaurant employees are one group heavily affected.

Because of this, “The Greg Hill Foundation and Samuel Adams have teamed up to support those from the restaurant industry across the country who have been impacted by the Covid-19 closures.”

The Restaurant Strong Fund has been raising money for restaurants and their workers across 20 states. Will you join VIM to help Massachusetts reach its goal of $1,000,000?

To Our Loyal Members and VIM Family,

We wanted to give you an update based on recent orders and advisories from Federal, State and Local governmental authorities regarding COVID-19. VIM FITNESS is temporarily closed based on current governmental guidance in place, and will be closed until further notice. Starting April 1, 2020, ALL MONTHLY RECURRING PAYMENTS WILL BE SUSPENDED until we re-open.

Below we have outlined important membership updates to answer questions you may have:

  • Starting April 1, 2020, recurring monthly services that have not yet been processed, will be temporarily suspended and monthly recurring electronic funds transfers from your credit card or bank account will cease until VIM Fitness reopens.
  • For Monthly recurring memberships to VIM that have already been processed between March 18th and 31st, we will provide a prorated credit that can be applied against future charges on your membership account. Credits are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
  • March membership dues credit will be available to be applied towards future charges on your membership account once the club re-opens.
  • For those of you on a yearly paid in full memberships, VIM will provide credit to you in the form of additional time at the end of your original 12-Month term for the amount of time equal to the days we are closed due to COVID-19. Credits are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

While we are closed, please continue to monitor our website, Facebook, and Instagram pages. For our valued members of VIM FITNESS, we will continue to post workouts, videos, fun fitness tips, and motivation for FREE to keep you moving from home. We want to send an update on current conditions. In accordance with State and local guidelines, we need to remain closed at our University Park and Central Square locations through April 7, 2020. We will be sure to update you as things change.

As a reminder, we will remain active on social media posting workouts, videos, fun fitness tips, and motivation to keep you moving from home. Please look out for our NEWLY launched “Work out of the Day” segments on Instagram and Facebook and live Group Exercise classes daily on “Instagram Live” to give you motivation and direction for workouts.

Please keep those in need in your thoughts during this difficult time for many. We will continue to support our employees and their families during this time in an effort to do our small part.

Valued members, if you are on a monthly membership option, we are currently formulating a plan to provide for a reduced monthly fee in a future month, due to the time we have had to be mandatorily shutdown.

For those of you on a yearly membership, we would be glad to credit you additional time at the end of your membership term.

To Our Loyal Members,

We here at VIM FITNESS want everyone to know we always have our members’ best interest in mind when making any major decisions. We have struggled with this decision over the past few days. Since our most recent communication to you, the Federal Government has updated the recommendations for businesses to have no more than ten people in a large space to help flatten the curve of infections.

We value every member and want to take the necessary precautions to not only prevent the spread of COVID-19 but to also ensure our fitness community’s well-being. In keeping with that, we have made the difficult decision to close the facilities at University Park and Central Square for 2 weeks starting at the close of business today, Wednesday March 18th, 2020.

At this moment we will be closed until March 31, 2020. If any changes or updates are made we will post them to our website, Facebook, and Instagram. Please keep everyone in your thoughts during this short but tough time to include small businesses.

In the meantime we will remain active on social media posting workouts, videos, fun fitness tips, and motivation to keep you moving from home. To Our VIM FIT Fam,
In light of the Governors order and in an effort to keep members and staff safe, starting March 17, 2020 we will be temporarily suspending all group exercise classes and small group training sessions til April 6, 2020. We will continue our nightly deep cleaning procedures with hospital grade disinfectants and continue our added cleaning schedules throughout the day. We’re dedicated to protecting against coronavirus, while remaining a place that our Fitness community can feel welcome and safe.
Here’s what is changing:
  • All group exercise classes and Small Group/Team Training sessions will suspend til April 6, 2020.
  • VIM Fitness will stay open as of right now with modified hours. Central square will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Our University Park location will be open from 9:00am to 7:00pm
  • We will be offering the WORK OUT OF THE DAY on both our instagram page and facebook page for members to utilize and stay fit during this adjustment period of 3 weeks.

Since getting into bachata and salsa in the summer of 2025, he has become immersed in the world of Latin dance and performs with the Rumba y Timbal dance company, Tumbao, based in Cambridge. Besides working as a professor in the arts, he loves weightlifting and keeping active, with dance remaining fundamental to his approach to a healthy balance in life. As a bachata instructor, he emphasizes that movement is an exploration and appreciation for what our bodies can do and achieve — just like in fitness overall — especially in a social setting to connect with music and others in community.

Esther is a passionate yoga practitioner with a foundation in ballet, bringing a sense of flow and body awareness into her teaching. Since beginning her yoga practice in 2021, she has found it to be a powerful way to turn inward and release tension from life’s demands. In 2026, she completed her 200-hour Ashtanga/Vinyasa Teacher Training at Sampoorna Yoga in Goa, India, where she deepened her knowledge of yoga philosophy, anatomy, and alignment.

Esther is dedicated to helping students cultivate deeper connections with their bodies, guiding them toward greater strength, ease, and confidence in their practice. Her teaching emphasizes steady, progressive growth, encouraging students to explore asanas at their own pace. She is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all levels, offering thoughtful modifications and hands-on adjustments, with safety, awareness, and consent at the forefront.
‼️COMING SOON‼️ Yoga workshop “Going Upside Down: ‼️COMING SOON‼️ Yoga workshop “Going Upside Down: Inversions in Yoga” on Saturday 4/25 1-2:30pm with VIM instructor Ruth! 

Are you curious about poses like headstand, forearm stand, and handstand? In this 90 minute workshop we will break down the different aspects of these heat building inversions. We will start with a 50 minute flow, focusing on strengthening the core and shoulders, and lengthening the hamstrings. Then, we will spend time exploring each inversion and focusing on specific drills to encourage an inversion practice. We will also discuss some of the mental benefits that inversions can offer us in our yoga practice. 

This class is designed for intermediate to advanced students who have an established, consistent yoga practice. The goal is not to “get up” into an inversion, but to work the aspects of the shape and encourage exploration.
