Shortly after taking a front desk job at a gym in the beginning of the pandemic, Renee Bondoc began working with a personal trainer to help refine her technique and give her some direction in her training. Renee had been concerned about pain in her wrist that was later revealed to have originated in her back from an overuse injury due to improper lifting form. It didn’t take long for her to understand the value in working with a trainer not just for accountability or weight loss or strength gains, but for preventing pain and simply existing more efficiently. The impact that a trainer can have on their client is something that she was able to see from the client perspective, and that’s where her drive to become a trainer herself was born.
Renee didn’t grow up with any extensive athletic or fitness background, which she uses as a strength when it comes to relating to her clients and having empathy regardless of where they are in their journey. She has been able to help a number of women and non-binary folks feel empowered in the gym and feel a sense of belonging, because everyone deserves to take up space in the gym. Her favorite way to bust the myth that the gym is an intimidating space is by being lighthearted and goofy during sessions while also being productive – it’s all about balance.
Renee has worked with a wide variety of clients from all walks of life and fitness levels – from experienced lifters looking to maintain good technique, to clients looking to prevent pain or jump back into fitness post-injury. As the population of individuals dealing with pain related to poor posture continues to grow, Renee recently completed a Corrective Exercise Specialization to meet the demand of clients looking for trainers to help keep them out of physical therapy. This inspired her to help launch a “Prehab/Posthab Program” through VIM to help lifters from seasoned-beginner to advanced levels avoid overuse injury as well as help bridge the gap between post-physical therapy and getting back into the gym for normal exercise.
Renee’s Client Testimonials
Training with Renee over the past 9 months has changed my life. She is passionate, knowledgeable and pushes me when I need it. Every session is never repetitive or boring and full of fun and laughs while also staying focused. She’s helped me overcome my fear of the weight room and maintain a positive mindset through all of it. My quality of life has greatly improved beyond anything I ever imagined when it comes to my physical and mental health and self esteem. I’m incredibly grateful for Renee and excited to continue this journey with her.
Renee has made me feel so much more confident in the weights section of the gym, particularly with barbell exercises by teaching me proper form and technique. Plus, she makes it fun!
She’ll push you like a coach, lift you like a brother, and nag you like your mother to keep you on track. It’s been a tough journey, but I’ve never felt alone!
Working with Renee as my personal trainer was honestly a life changing decision. I was a big cardio bunny and had no prior experience with mobility or strength training when I started PT with Renee. I could never commit to the gym and felt nervous being in there because I didn’t know what to do. She met me where I was and built up strength slowly. Before I knew it, I was moving and lifting weight in ways I never could before!!! Renee is patient and knowledgeable and kind and makes you feel very comfortable in the gym. As a woman I liked working with a fellow woman trainer and she encourages women in the gym to take up space! She understood my goals and helped me achieve them, working on strength, mobility, posture and feeling good in my body! Today I feel stronger and more confident than ever and I am still committed to my weekly gym routines. I’m so glad I booked PT with Renee and would highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn and grow!
I have worked remotely with Renee for a little over a year and, during that time, made steady progress that made me enjoy the gym and feel accomplished with what I was doing. As my needs changed and shifted more towards injury prevention and corrective exercises, Renee worked with me to evaluate the current state of my capabilities and adapt to my needs as well as adapt to my changing workout settings (moving from a big name gym to an apartment gym). Overall, I would recommend her to both people looking to build strength and reach new heights as well as those looking for an introduction/re-introduction to proper movement and hitting the gym. She does a great job of understanding your own personal goals and helping you reach them.
Renee does an amazing job keeping me on track with my fitness goals and continues to push me to be at my very best!
